The Benthic Practitioners

Meet the benthic practitioners.

They are—

At the bottom of the hierarchy. They are the working-level employees whose subordination is more important to the management than their actual competence.

At the bottom of the value delivery chain. They are at the forefront that delivers values, yet they have the least say in the overarching value delivery logic.

At the bottom of the decision making chain. They have the most expertise and experience to address the needs of the organization (that’s why they are hired), yet they are least respected in making decisions, strategic or tactical.

At the bottom of the intervention chain. They know their organization’s challenges the best, yet they have the least influence in addressing them.

At the bottom of the reward distribution chain. They sweat their domain knowledge to make things happen, yet they are paid the least for their contribution.

Do you know those benthic practitioners in your organization?

Are you one of them?
