Here’s the problem with promoting HCD (Human-Centred Design) in many orgs, through an analogy:
Instead of promoting the chefs, we hold onto the recipes noted down by a salesperson who observed the chefs cooking, and then we crown the recipes as “THE thing”, leaving the chefs aside.
Exactly how human-centred is that?
HCD starts from respecting and supporting the chefs, not the recipes. As long as the very people who offer the world those great recipes are not respected, supported and trusted, there’s no HCD.
Respect the people behind the expertise, not the other way around.
